Drug Uses



Azulfidine is made to use in treating mild to mediocre ulcerative colitis and as adjunctive therapy in critical ulcerative colitis. It is also used for the remedy of rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, or ankylosing spondylitis.



Usage



Azulfidine should be used according to doctor's advice very strictly. If you are uncertain or do not remember the directions then you may read the medicine label for more precise information. Depending on the patient's state the dosage can be ranged from 500mg to 2000mg, and the dosing time in between can be 6 hours to 12 hours. Azulfidine should be taken along with a meal. Hydrate well while using Azulfidine. People who are suffering from kidney disease should use a lower dosage of Azulfidine.



Drug Class and Mechanism



Azulfidine is primarily essentially a sulfonamide that aids in decreasing inflammation and improves the immune system.



Missed Dose



A missed dose should be adjusted by allowing a time gap of at least 4 to 5 hours. Otherwise, just skip the missed one and continue the dosage as usual. Doctors never recommend taking double doses at any cost.



Storage



Keep Azulfidine at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). You may also conceal it within a temperature of 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) for a brief period. Keep it in a cool, dark, dry, and clean place without the reach of children and pets.
Warning/Precautions

Doctors do not recommend the usage of Azulfidine if you are allergic to sulfonamides (sulfa drugs) or any component in it or if you have conditions like a critical allergic reaction to aspirin or any medicine comprising aspirin.

Open up about all your clinical history before the doctor prior to the medication. If you are already on any medication even if it is a vitamin tablet or OTC medicine, it should be informed. Your condition might be observed and the dosage will be adjusted to suit you if you have any side effects.

Drink more liquids especially water in general and while using this medicine.

Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun as this medication develops the sensitivity of your skin to the sun. recommend using sunscreen.
